VA Long Beach Healthcare System
Together We Will Win
In times of national crisis, such as the current Coronavirus pandemic, VA provides services to the nation based on requests from states, while being clear that Veterans are first. This is known as VA’s Fourth Mission.
Nursing home populations are at the highest risk of being affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) given their congregate nature and the underlying chronic medical conditions of most of the residents. They are also at an increased risk of serious illness.
VA Long Beach accepted the mission assignment from the California Department of Public Health to support a nursing home with a surge in COVID-19 among its residents.
VA Long Beach stepped in and deployed five Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) – Adriana Hernandez, Jocell Fernandez, Joel Lopez, Maria Nguyen and Michelle Bernardo – lead by Registered Nurse (RN) Nguyet Pham. The team proudly answered the call and have been caring for those who are especially vulnerable to COVID-19.
With a special heart and superior skills, this dedicated team is helping senior citizens battling COVID-19.
“To make great teamwork is to empower their own specialty and skills to respect individual values together through challenges and obstacles,” said the team.
