Veterans Embracing Art as Therapy Showcase Masterpieces

LONG BEACH, Calif. – VA Long Beach Healthcare System will host its 2016 Veterans Creative Arts Festival and Competition on January 28, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at VA Long Beach Medical Center’s Pantages Theater.
The festival will celebrate the progress and recovery of Veterans who embrace art as a form of therapy and recognize their artistic achievements. The competition will select first, second and third place winners for each category to be advanced to the national level.
Categories include fine art, such as painting, drawing, sculpture and photography; applied arts, such as ceramics, carving, needlework and leatherwork; craft kits, such as string art, fabric art and wood building; creative writing; dance; and music.
An estimated 40 entries, submitted individually or as a group, from 25 different categories will be on exhibition for judging.
First-place winners will be advanced to the 2016 National Creative Arts Festival and Competition, to be held in Jackson, Mississippi, October 10-17, 2016. The event provides Veterans receiving treatment at VA facilities across the country the opportunity to showcase their masterpieces and gain recognition for their artistic accomplishments.
