New Fisher House Opens at VA Long Beach

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for a brand new 16-suite Fisher House at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System Medical Center. A Fisher House is a home away from home for families of military service members and Veterans receiving health care treatment at a VA Medical Center.

Tracye B. Davis, VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System Director, Steven Kuykendall, President and CEO of Fisher House Southern California, Dana Debel, Managing Director of State and Local Government Affairs, Delta Air Lines and others will be participating in a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting. The event is open to the public and tours of the new Fisher House will be available after the ceremony.
This new Fisher House joins more than 65 other Fisher Houses around the world that support our wounded warriors, Veterans, and their families. The opening of this building represents the culmination of a multi-year public-private effort by Fisher House Southern California, Department of Veterans Affairs, and our local community of donors. Fisher House Southern California will support the operations of the house alongside VA Long Beach Healthcare System. The home, which was gifted to the VA, includes, 16 suites equipped with private, handicapped-accessible bathrooms. Common areas include a spacious kitchen, large communal living, dining and family rooms, a laundry room and patio. These beautiful homes enable family members to be close to loved ones free-of-charge during hospitalization for a combat injury, illness or disease at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System Medical Center in Long Beach, CA.
The VA Long Beach Healthcare System provides delivery of health care to more than 56,000 Veterans throughout Southern California including the City of Long Beach and all of Orange County. VA Long Beach is also home to one of the Department of Veterans Affairs largest Spinal Cord Injury Units as well as the latest blind rehabilitation center, the Major Charles Robert Soltes Jr. O.D. Blind Rehabilitation Center.
The Fisher House program provides a “home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers across the United States and beyond. The homes provide temporary free lodging so families can be close to their loved ones during a medical crisis.
