Veterans Personal Identifiable Information Found During Unrelated Criminal Investigation

July 3, 2014

Long Beach, California – Local law enforcement officials discovered personal and private information pertaining to 639 Veterans of the Long Beach VA healthcare System during an investigation into unrelated criminal activity. Of the 639 entries found, 586 records contained full names and social security numbers with a remaining 43 containing full names with last four numbers of Social Security numbers.

The initial criminal investigation was not related to the Veteran’s information breech but will now be included in the investigation and any potential charges in the case. To date, there are no reports of criminal activities directly involved with the Veteran’s personal information, but as a precautionary measure, the 586 Veterans whose full Social Security numbers discovered will be notified directly by the VA Long Beach Healthcare System and offered free credit monitoring services for a period of twelve months.
